SCTE Presents: Television to IP

Ian Nock took part in the SCTE Presents event at the Institution of Civil Engineers, which addressed the technology, societal, and usability aspects of the upcoming transition of television from broadcast distribution to IP based streaming delivery.

Forthcoming changes to broadcast TV distribution in the UK will have a significant impact on all ISPs – altnets and incumbents alike. Peaks in traffic associated with mass-appeal live events are already with us, and when DTT and DSAT are switched off, all that traffic is headed to broadband. How the industry intends to manage this shift and much more was discussed in detail.

Dr Anthony Basham, President of the SCTE presided, along with Mo Hamza of Kagan TMT, Richard Lindsay-Davies CEO DTG, Xavier Leclercq VP Business Development Broadpeak, Keith Chow Senior Product Manager Nokia, Andy Stevens Principal Solutions Architect BT, Iuniana Oprescu Principal CDN Architect Sky, Justin Gupta Head of Broadcast & Video Ads Google, Phil Layton Head of Applied Research for Media BBC R&D, James Saunby Consulting Director GreySky Consulting, Hannah Walsh Principal Analyst Ampere Analysis, as well as Ian Nock.
